Demerit Point Breakdown in Edmonton, Alberta
The demerit point system does not track some offences. Criminal offences* such as impaired driving or dangerous driving usually carry hefty fines, the suspension of your licence, or even prison time. Conviction of either driving while suspended or without insurance will also net an immediate hefty fine, as well as other more severe consequences. Alberta's new Distracted Driving Legislation also restricts drivers from using cell phones, electronic devices, reading, and other acts that distract them while driving. The charge for this offence is a fine of $287 and 3 demerit points. Unfortunately, we do not assist with distracted driving tickets. Please call us for a free consultation or clarification if need be.
Having your licence suspended means you are no longer legally allowed to drive, and it can also be quite expensive. If you are a graduated licence holder, your licence will get suspended once you reach eight demerit points. For full class 5 licence holders, licence suspension happens at 15 demerit points.
The courts may also suspend your licence for some more severe offences. Be aware of your rights, avoid high fines and possible jail time, and contact Got a Ticket Fight It now.
